FreshLink

The FreshLink project aims at performing research on the thinning of the Greenland ice sheet margin, which clearly has a global impact. Here, we will combine several different techniques to estimate the freshwater flux from the Greenland Ice Sheet and surrounding land in a local area in SW Greenland - Nuuk. Focus is on analyzing different freshwater contributions to the sea, represented here by the fjord Godthåbsfjorden, and to evaluate the historical and future magnitude as well as seasonal distribution. Finally, attempts to match freshwater runoff from land with measured freshwater flux in the upper layers of the fjord, facilitates an independent test of the performance of the ice/land discharge modeling.

Institutions involved

The Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (GINR), The Greenland Survey (Asiaq), The Technical University of Denmark Space (DTU Space), the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS), the University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS) and University of Alaska Fairbanks (GIA)

Financial support

The present project has recieved financial support from the Commission for Scientific Research in Greenland (KVUG) and the Danish Energy Agency as part of the climate support program to the Arctic.
